Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL DraftKings Primer for March 11
The NHL has only three games on the docket for Wednesday, but there's a great opportunity to take advantage of. This situation will allow you to load up on some high-profile players and fill out the remainder of your roster with some swing picks.
If you play your cards right, the top picks will be able to carry you against other fantasy players, and your lower-cost swing picks can make the ultimate difference. There's a $50,000 salary cap that you have to abide by, and I thought it would be helpful to list the best players at each position that you can draft at the same time.

This primer will lay the groundwork, and the rest can be chosen at your discretion. With that in mind, here is your primer for March 11.
Center: Sean Monahan ($5,900)
Sean Monahan has been one of the Calgary Flames' centers this season, and he has a bright future at the NHL level. The 20-year-old pivot has 11 points in his last 10 games, including five goals and a 3.6 fantasy points-per-game average. He has good value at only $5,900, and saving money in this area will come in handy as you fill out the rest of your lineup.
Winger: Alex Ovechkin ($9,500)

Spending $9,500 on Alex Ovechkin is a no-brainer, so we won't spend too much time here. He has 10 goals and 16 points in his last 10 games and has averaged 7.3 fantasy points per game during that span. He's been unstoppable lately, and he will pile up points by taking shots and scoring goals.
He has been the NHL's best offensive player outside of John Tavares recently, and it is going to be very hard to shut him down.
Defense: James Wisniewski ($4,500)

James Wisniewski will provide the most bang for your buck on defense, because he has five points in his last 10 games and a 3.2 fantasy points-per-game average. He will only cost $4,500 against the cap, and that's important when you consider that you will spend major bucks at other positions.
Goalie: Braden Holtby ($8,800)

Braden Holtby has been a tough cookie to crack over the last few weeks, and he'd contend for the Vezina Trophy if not for Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens. Holtby has a record of 6-4-0 over his last 10 games and a 1.91 goals-against average and .933 save percentage for good measure. His price tag of $8,800 is pretty reasonable, and it is worth the investment.
Utility: Jakob Silfverberg ($4,600)

For $4,600, you can't go wrong by taking Jakob Silfverberg as a utility player. The Anaheim Ducks winger has seven points in his last 10 games and is averaging 3.1 fantasy points per game. Silverberg is starting to hit his stride as a player.
If you follow this strategy, you fill have $4,175 to spend on each of your remaining spots. That is an above-average amount, and you could free up some additional space if you swap out someone like Ovechkin. Overall, you will still have a good chance of filling out a solid lineup, but it will come down to how you allocate your salary cap by position.
