It seemed like it would never happen, but the road to what should be the biggest fight in boxing history begins Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Floyd Mayweather announced via his Shots social media account on Feb. 20 what the boxing world has been hoping to hear for the better part of the past seven years: He will meet longtime rival and fellow pound-for-pound icon Manny Pacquiao in a welterweight unification showdown on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

But first, on Wednesday afternoon, the two men will meet face to face for the first and final time before fight week. And given the explosive personalities involved, you can be certain that both men and their teams will have plenty to say.

Mayweather is the sport's undisputed pound-for-pound king and top attraction. As one of the greatest defensive tacticians in boxing history, he's never been defeated and seldom challenged in an undefeated career highlighted by world titles in five weight divisions.

He's made good and great fighters look ordinary, but he was always dogged by questions about when he'd face Pacquiao, long considered the biggest threat to his reign. Tired of the constant questions and derision from fans and many in the media, Mayweather will be placing more than his WBC and WBA Welterweight Championships on the line—this will be his legacy fight

Pacquiao won himself back a share of the 147-pound crown by taking Timothy Bradley's WBO belt last year. He successfully defended it with a lopsided mismatch win over Chris Algieri in Macau last November. Perhaps sensing the time getting away from him, both the fighter and his promoters were increasingly aggressive in pushing for this fight.
