Louks Leaves The Utes, People Ask What It Means For This Season?
So as of late all I hear is how Louks has decided to leave UTAH, and they make it seem like this single event is going to crush our team and our season. Why do they think that? Here is what I mean. How many people have been there through the spring and summer? How many people have seen these other kids taking reps? How many people have seen every snap of every practice and scrimmage? The answer of course is, THE COACHES. If the coaches decided that one of these other kids would be better suited to start, why not start him? If they think that another player will perform better than Louks, why start Louks?
Every coach has a job, and that job is to win. Winning is the single most important thing a coach can do. People will say, "But what about recruiting?", and to them I say, if you win you are better able to recruit better talent. A team that is always losing, no matter which conference they are in, will not be able to consistently recruit top talent. Sure they will get a nugget now and then, but in the long run, they will not be able to recruit the top athletes every year. Winning teams have more appeal and more draw to recruits. Coaches need to focus on winning.
Coach Whitt and his staff are no different. They are going to start players they think are going to win. It doesn't matter whether the kid is a red shirt freshman or a senior. If the player can get the wins, the coaches will start them, to do anything else is foolish and perilous.
I am sad to see Corbin Louks go, but I am not angry or resentful towards him. Louks helped our team out last year, and he helped get us where we went. Louks now feels he will be better served at another school, and to that I say best of luck! Louks needs to do what is best for him, not what is best for fans, school, or team. If Louks feels that he needs to go to another team thats what he needs to do. Why should he stay here and think what if if he wants to go somewhere else. Sure he could have been a safety, but if he doesn't want to try that then thats his business and his prerogative.
Corbin we will miss you, and I want to thank you for all you have done and been for our team. Best wishes and good luck at your new school and in all your future endeavors.
