Owen Daniels to Broncos: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
Owen Daniels is among the most underappreciated tight ends in football, and the 32-year-old veteran is set to bring his unheralded style of play to the Denver Broncos after signing a deal on Tuesday in free agency.
The Ravens have confirmed that Daniels has signed a three-year deal with Denver, and Mike Klis of the The Denver Post reported that the contract is worth $12 million.
After spending eight seasons with the Houston Texans, Daniels signed with the Baltimore Ravens last offseason. He was expected to be a complement to No. 1 tight end Dennis Pitta, but when Pitta went down for the season with a hip injury, Daniels was thrust into a starting role.

The veteran came through with a solid campaign, as he caught 48 passes for 527 yards and four touchdowns while acting as quarterback Joe Flacco's security blanket.
Many figured that Daniels was reaching the tail end of his career after missing 11 games due to injury in 2013, but he proved he still had plenty left in the tank. Daniels' resurgence was something that didn't surprise NFL Players Association president and former Texans teammate Eric Winston in the least:
As good as Daniels was during the regular season for Baltimore, he turned up his level of play even more in the playoffs.
He totaled eight grabs for 111 yards and a touchdown in two games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. It seemed as though all four of his catches in Baltimore's near upset of the Pats were huge, which prompted Randy Harvey of the Houston Chronicle to suggest that the Texans gave up on him too soon:
Houston's loss was Baltimore's gain, though, and every indication following the 2014 season was that Daniels was interested in extending his time with the Ravens beyond one year.
Per Garrett Downing of BaltimoreRavens.com, Daniels made it clear that he had plenty left in the tank following his excellent play down the stretch:
"I think I got a couple more (years) in me, at least. I finished out the year as strong as I could. At my age, that's not easy to do. But they did a great job taking care of me throughout the season. I train my butt off during the offseason, so I'll be ready to go and hopefully I'll be back.
"
There was definite uncertainty regarding Daniels' status with the Ravens prior to free agency, though, as offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak left Baltimore to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos.
Daniels played under Kubiak in both Houston and Baltimore, so Vic Lombardi of 104.3 The Fan in Denver speculated that the veteran tight end could potentially join the Broncos:
Even so, there was reason to believe that Daniels and the Ravens might find a way to continue their relationship, but it simply didn't come to fruition.
Daniels figures to have success in his new surroundings based on his impressive body of work, and it will be interesting to see how Baltimore fares without him.
He was one of the most reliable players on either side of the ball for the Ravens last season, and replacing his presence certainly won't be easy.
