Darren McFadden to Cowboys: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappMar 13, 2015

Darren McFadden has not quite lived up to expectations since the Oakland Raiders selected him No. 4 overall in the 2008 NFL draft. After a slew of injury-plagued seasons, it's easy to forget he is just 27 years old.

But the Dallas Cowboys think McFadden has more in the tank, agreeing to a two-year deal with the running back Friday.

Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported the agreement. ESPN's Todd Archer confirmed the deal was in place and reported it was worth up to $5.85 million and came with a $200,000 signing bonus.

McFadden had a 2014 to forget, rushing for just 534 yards and two touchdowns while averaging a pedestrian 3.4 yards per carry. He also caught 36 passes for 212 yards.

McFadden has spent all seven of his professional seasons in Oakland, rushing for 4,247 yards and 25 touchdowns. He's rushed for more than 1,000 yards just once in his career (in 2010), however, and various injuries have caused him to miss 29 games during that span. In fact, 2014 was the first season in which he appeared in all 16 games in a season.

It's not surprising the Raiders would cut ties with McFadden, as Latavius Murray looks like the future at running back for the team. Plus, McFadden no longer resembles the feature back the Raiders drafted out of Arkansas.

Perhaps with the Cowboys, he can resurrect his career. With DeMarco Murray headed to Philadelphia, the Cowboys are in need of a talented back. With regular carries in the Dallas offense, McFadden will have every opportunity to prove he's still a capable dual-threat back in the NFL.
