Myers Looking For New Team

Thursday, March 4

Despite his resiliency, Myers was released by the Houston Texans on Wednesday. General manager Rick Smith told the team's official website that the veteran center was always a stellar member of the franchise since joining them in 2008:

"

Chris has been a mainstay on our offensive line for the past seven seasons. He has been a consummate pro during his time here in Houston.  Chris, his wife, Jenny, and his entire family have represented our organization in the Houston community with class. We appreciate his contributions and wish him the best as he continues his career.

"

Per ESPN.com's Tania Ganguli, Myers was set to make $6 million with an $8 million cap hit before being released. That's a large sum of money for most offensive linemen, especially one who is 33 years old, but Pro Football Focus noted how well Myers is as a run blocker:

The Raiders are still in the process of rebuilding their roster, which needs to happen through the draft, but a veteran presence like Myers could be an essential part of things if he's interested in joining them.

Myers can revitalize a running game that was the worst in football last year, as well as help Derek Carr develop into a more efficient quarterback in his second season. He has good value because of his ability to play every game, so there could be a solid marriage here if the two sides decide to come together.
