Packers Reportedly Want to Re-Sign Williams
Thursday, March 12
Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported that the Packers are interested in re-signing Williams:
"The Green Bay Packers are still trying to re-sign free-agent cornerback Tramon Williams, according to a source familiar with their thinking.
Williams visited the New Orleans Saints Tuesday and Wednesday but left without completing a deal, according to ESPN NFL Nation Saints reporter Mike Triplett.
The Saints remain in play for Williams' services, according to Triplett's source, but they are also making a push to sign former New England Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner.
That could help push Williams back to the Packers.
The Packers would like to retain Williams, especially after losing cornerback Davon House to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but may be only willing to offer him a two-year deal that could average between $4 million and $5 million per season.

Seahawks Preparing a Williams Bid
Wednesday, March 4
Bob McGinn of the Journal-Sentinel reported the Seahawks have already reached out and "made it clear" they're going to pursue Williams in free agency. Seattle is looking for a second cornerback to pair with Richard Sherman. Incumbent starter Byron Maxwell is a free agent and is one of the most coveted corners on the market, likely taking him out of the Seahawks' price range.
Williams, 31, has played all eight of his NFL seasons in Green Bay. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time, barring a last-minute deal between him and the Packers before March 10. The 2010 Pro Bowler made 71 tackles and three interceptions last season, helping push the team to 11th in Football Outsiders' DVOA pass defense rankings.

Green Bay has thus far resisted Williams' push for a deal averaging $5 million over three or four years, per McGinn. The team currently has a two-year, $8 million deal on the table.
It's unclear how far the Seahawks are willing to go to match Williams' asking price, but he'd certainly be an interesting fit next to Sherman. Unlike a typical Pete Carroll cornerback, Williams is listed at 5'11". Last season, the only cornerback who was listed below 6'0" on the Seahawks depth chart was the seldom-used Marcus Burley.
Carroll has long preferred length over elite top-end speed at cornerback to run his defensive system. That said, Williams is a longstanding veteran who has missed only one game in eight NFL seasons. If the Seahawks are looking for reliability next to the superstar in Sherman, it would be hard to find it in a better place.
