GATORS PRE-Season Number 1?

CARLOS GRUBBAug 17, 2009

Well here we are again, almost the start of another NCAA-DIV 1 Football season. Who will be in the BCS TITLE GAME this year? Well, first we’ve got to cut the choices down to say…well, let’s cut them to the top 5. The same top 5 at season’s end last year will pretty much be, in my opinion, about the same top 5 this year.

Myself, I would say that when the dust settles and the season is at an end, we will have for a top 5, FLORIDA, TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, USC and OREGON. Yea, I know OREGON might be reaching a little, I did say "might" be. You really don’t have to look much further than FLORIDA and TEXAS. Sorry OKLAHOMA fans, I don’t think that you will have a shot at redemption this year.

FLORIDA pretty much still has their offensive line back and intact. They were a fairly young team last year, though they will miss Percy Harvin. They have capable players, not that any can fill his shoes as that would be asking too much of any back, but it will be interesting to see if a player can step up to the proverbial plate…errrr…shoe. The General will be back, the heart and soul of the Gator offense. Of course I am talking about Tim Tebow. In a way, I guess this article is about the field savvy quarterback and a few others as well. No matter who is in the BCS title game, it will definitely be because of the team’s quarterback and there are a few great ones to be sure. I just happen to think, well me and just about every expert of the game, that Tim Tebow is the best of the lot. If there is anything Tim Tebow can’t do as a quarterback, then someone please enlighten me. I don’t expect to hear from anyone on that subject. He sets his offensive line in the spots HE wants them in. If he sees someone unchecked on defense that is going to blow by a tackle and try to make him a permanent part of the field, he will tell a fullback or tight end to set up there and plug the hole. He calls the plays. He calls the audibles. He can throw 70 yards downfield or just run those 70 yards himself. I mean honestly, in the 45 years that I have watched college football, I have not seen a more complete package than Tim Tebow.

Now what about OKLAHOMA? From what I’ve researched and going over quotes and quips, there is no way that they are going back to the title game. I was just reading about some things Sam Bradford said. Now before I go any further, does anyone think that had just a few plays gone their way that OKLAHOMA would have won that title game? Those of you that do, raise your hands. All right, those of you who think that had a few plays gone OKLAHOMA’s way they wouldn’t still have been annihilated, blown out of the water, slammed into the turf, please raise your hand. Thank you for your participation. This is why Sam Bradford will not lead this team back to the title game, because he really believes that. So he has not learned from last year’s mistakes and that means history will repeat itself.

TEXAS. Now the Longhorns have a workhorse at quarterback in Colt McCoy (with a name like that, how can you NOT be from Texas?). His work ethic is second to none. Those that know me well, know that I am sick with end-stage COPD so I can’t research or write as often as I would like, so this is pure hearsay. Apparently TEXAS has gone out and signed a great group of defensive players while OKLAHOMA has not. If this is the case, then the very consistent McCoy will be an offensive power with a very good defense and a very hard team to stop. Colt is not the all-around package that Tebow is, no matter how hard he tries, nor is any other Quarterback.

Remember i said OREGON? Well if the GATORS were to get turned into a pair of boots, and believe me losing A game in the SEC isn't even a stumble but we all know the"BCS",and the "LONG HORNS" got bull-dogged,and the SOONERS were well 'LATER' if you catch my drift. Quaterback Jeremiah Masoli of  OREGON is a truly gifted QB from the Junior College ranks who could have the DUCKS quacking all the way to the top. (forgive the puns i just couldnt help myself) And i'm not kidding around about that.

USC. Well they have to hope that OREGON team is not as good as i say it is to have a shot.In there favor when UTAH comes to OREGON to play the DUCKS the UTES will likely be riding a 16 game win streak. If OREGON gets by them and i think they will, its all over for USC.

So what it comes down to is FLORIDA's great coach URBAN MEYER, their great QB TIM TEBOW,their OFFENSIVE line, their DEFENCE,their SPECIAL TEAM players, and most of all the fire that burns in every player on the FLORIDA squad to repeat as 'NATIONAL CHAMPIONS' to prove last year was no fluke will give them the drive to do just that. personally i wish it could be against OKLAHOMA again so there would be no doubt, But i think it will be TEXAS. FLORIDA and TEXAS FOR THE "BCS" CHAMPIONSHIP.
