Curtis Glencross to Capitals: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappMar 1, 2015

Curtis Glencross' future with the Calgary Flames was pretty much sealed when he and the team couldn't agree to a contract extension. It's not surprising, then, that the Flames have reportedly decided to trade Glencross to the Washington Capitals rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Darren Dreger of TSN first reported the news, and Bob McKenzie of TSN filled in some of the details:

Craig Custance of ESPN The Magazine provided some additional insight on the negotiations:

Sportsnet on Twitter captured the moment the deal had gone through and Glencross was pulled out of practice:

Glencross has scored nine goals and added 19 assists in 53 games for the Flames this season, though his departure had long become inevitable.

The question now will be whether the Flames sit on those picks or if they look to flip them for a player to bolster the defense as they gear up for the stretch run, looking to secure a playoff berth.

Glencross, meanwhile, joins a Capitals team also hoping to reach postseason play and currently in seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. It's clear that he believes in the team's prospects going forward, as the 32-year-old was willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Caps.
