Manchester United Transfer News: Latest David De Gea and Marquinhos Rumours

Matt JonesFeb 27, 2015

David de Gea has dismissed reports of a rift between himself and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, claiming rumours the pair have not spoken for months are “lies.”

As noted by Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, reports in Spain had claimed that there was some ongoing angst between the duo. But the Spanish goalkeeper told MUTV that he’s happy working under the Dutchman and thinks he’s in the finest form of his career to date, per Jackson’s piece:

"

Everything that has been written in the press about us not getting on is a lie. We both want the best for the club and the team, and the stories are complete lies.

I think this is the best period of my career. I am playing the best football that I’ve ever played. I’m really enjoying it at the moment and I’m just trying to improve with every training session and every game that goes by, giving 100% and concentrating to the maximum. That’s the way I want to continue.

De Gea’s words will offer some comfort to United supporters who may be concerned about the 24-year-old’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

As of yet the Spaniard has failed to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Red Devils and with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2015/16 season, rumours have surfaced regarding a potential move to Real Madrid, per Guillem Balague of Sky Sports.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been magnificent for United so far this campaign, helping the Red Devils to challenge for a Champions League spot despite having failed to gel as an XI yet under the tutelage of Van Gaal. He’s one of the finest young goalkeepers in the world and you suspect all associated with the club would be devastated to lose him.

Full Time DEVILS hope these latest words could potentially be a sign that a new deal is on the way, however:

But even the staunchest of United supporters would find it tough to admit the player’s contract situation isn’t a concern. After all, if Los Blancos do come calling in the summer, a young Spanish ‘keeper may find it difficult to turn the prospect down of joining the Santiago Bernabeu club.

United will be desperate to cling on to De Gea and for him to provide solid foundations for a renaissance at Old Trafford. And in the summer window, it’s defensive areas that Van Gaal will reportedly look to bolster, with reports linking the club with a summer switch for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos.

Here’s a look at the Brazilian star in action:

According to Adam Crafton of the MailOnline, the French champions are reluctant to sell the 20-year-old, but United have been unperturbed in their pursuit of the player. Crafton went on to claim that the Red Devils will have to offer in excess of £30 million if they want to land the former Roma man.

As noted by Matt Spiro of beIN Sports, Marquinhos recently revealed United also made a move for him in the January window:

A fee of that clout may seem like an excessive amount for a young defender, but if United were to land the PSG man it’d be a real coup. Not only does he boast excellent fundamental defensive instincts, but for a player still in the relative infancy of his career, his appreciation of the game and composure on the ball is majorly impressive.

Unfortunately for United, PSG are under no obligation to sell and while Marquinhos struggled for game time earlier in the season, as of late the Ligue 1 side have looked much more solid with him in the team. As such, you suspect the Red Devils will have to cough up an enormous amount of money if they’re going to tempt the French champions into a sale.
