NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added more details on the new deal:
He responded to the news with a message, via his Twitter account.
Jean Francois has experience playing in a 3-4 scheme, having played with the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts prior to his new home in Washington. He figures to be a big contributor for the Redskins under new defensive coordinator Joe Barry, who indicated he'll stick with that alignment on a recent episode of Redskins Nation (via Redskins.com).
After beginning his career with the 49ers, the 28-year-old Jean Francois spent the past two seasons with the Colts. However, the team released him on Monday to save cap space, with two years still remaining on his original contract.
Due to Jean Francois' unique blend of size and athleticism, he was bound to be signed sooner rather than later.
Washington ranked 27th in Football Outsiders' defensive efficiency rankings in 2014. Adding a dependable veteran in Jean Francois with plentiful playoff experience is a savvy move to address that side of the ball.
