Aaron Hernandez Allegedly Smoked Marijuana Hours Before Odin Lloyd's Death

Adam WellsFeb 26, 2015

Aaron Hernandez's trial continued on Thursday in Massachusetts with more developments in the case. A female witness testified that the former New England Patriots tight end was smoking marijuana a few hours before he's alleged to have killed Odin Lloyd.

According to an ESPN.com news release, which also included information from The Associated Press, Kelly Rose Belanger testified that Hernandez and another person were smoking marijuana outside a bar:

"

Kelly Rose Belanger testified Thursday that Hernandez was with a group of people at the bar she managed on the night of June 16.

She says he went in and out several times with another man. She smelled marijuana and went outside to see them smoking pot. She asked him to stop, and he did.

Hernandez paid the $243 bill and left a $30 tip at around 12:15 a.m. Lloyd was dead around three hours later.

The receipt from Hernandez's bar tab was made public with Jenny Wilson of the Hartford Courant tweeting out the bill that includes a number of alcoholic beverages:

Hernandez, 25, is charged with the 2013 killing of Lloyd. His trial has been going on for nearly one month.

On Wednesday, a Massachusetts state police officer testified that shell casings found near the spot where Lloyd was killed and in Hernandez's rental car came from the same gun.

The former NFL star has been held without bail since being charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty to six charges in 2013.
