New Orleans Saints: Jason David Out John Carney In!

Suzette Lampard BrantleyAug 17, 2009

He's BACK!

John Carney once again kicking for the Saints and the fans are thrilled!  We'll get back to him in just a bit.

What could knock such a story from the front row?

Jason David waived by the Saints this morning.  That's what can.

Once again, Jason David was burned during a game for a big play and a score.  The only points put up by the Bengals during the Saints 17-7 win on Friday night in the Superdome.

Jason David had been improving during OTA's and camp according to the coaching staff; however during crunch time it happened the same way it has during the past.  This has just not been a good fit for Mr. David and we Saints fans wish him well.

Hopefully he will land in the AFC and will become another ex-Saint turned pro. Maybe we'll face off in the final dance of the season.  Wouldn't that be prophetic?

Back to Mr. Carney!  He said it was "like being in a time warp" while at practice on Sunday.

New Orleans loves kickers.  Tom Dempsey and Morten Andersen have rock star status in the city and surrounding areas. At 45, Carney is hoping to continue in that tradition.

Will the staff keep both?  There is a thought of yes.  The current kicker, Garrett Hartley will be suspended for the first four games of the regular season due to a substance violation.

Yes, Hartley did miss a 19 yard chip shot during the game Friday night, but he did redeem himself later in the game.  However, the maturity level shown while addressing the media leads me to believe he'll be here for a bit, possibly under the guidance of Carney.

With the release of Jason David and the signing of first year cornerback Greg Fassitt, I think the Saints have the dollars to keep both kickers. Only time will tell.

Fassitt is no stranger to the city; he is a product of Grambling University in Baton Rouge.  He spent his high school years at none other than Kennedy High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Saints fans, I'm with ya......don't forget to breathe!

I’m not ready to say Super Bowl, but I may be willing to buy a ticket to the Pro Bowl being held in Miami the week before!
