Lets Talk Dubinsky !

Mr. ControversyAug 17, 2009

According to the New York Post, Brandon Dubinsky will be playing with the Rangers on a one year deal for $698,500. Brandon has been trying to get a multiyear deal out of the Rangers, but at this point, the two parties have been unable to come to an agreement.

At age 23 , Brandon Dubinsky  has showed some promise in his short two years with the Rangers. Scoring 14 goals with 26 assists his first year and 13 goals with 28 assists his second year.  Tallying 81 points over all.

Dubinsky is not the biggest guy , At 6’1 205LBS he plays and checks like he is a monster and with a lot of heart.  Although not a big guy Brandon plays a very physical game and does not hesitate to drop the gloves. He is not the best fighter on the ice , but Brandon is the first player in to help out and or protect his fellow teammates.  Anyone who knows me and my likes in a player knows Brandon get huge points in that area. Tough and gritty player who loves to play physical.  Which is Tortorella’s style of play.

But I must be opened minded and not show favoritism.

According to the article in the post, The Rangers are planning to use Dubinsky on the first line with Marian Gaborik and Sean Avery.  With no one else available on the free agency list that is worth looking at, is Dubs the man for the job?

The question here is this. Is Brandon Dubinsky good enough to take that role on the first line?  Watching Dubinsky play these last two years. It is not hard to see that Brandon is a control freak that loves to skate the puck in. That is just his style of play! But half the time he loses the puck deep in the offensive zone.  How will his play coexist with Gaborik’s style? With that , I wanted to ask you ,  the Rangers fans if you see the same as I do?

I just do not think Dubs is the guy for this spot.  He played with Jagr and Shanahan and zherdev.  All good goal scorers and it just did not pan out.  I cannot put my finger on it. But in my opinion, dubs is just not ready.  By no means should the Rangers let him go.  He has a lot of potential and he does have the talent and ability to be a first liner, just not this year.

Although the Rangers plan is to see how it works out with Dubs , than move Prospal  in his place if all else fails.  The Rangers are still in need of that center.  Prospal can play both left wing and center.  He is a very good pick up for the Rangers and will most definitely add to the Rangers roster.  But I would rather see Ales Kotalik or Prospal play left wing with Gaborik at the right wing.

The Rangers still need a center.  So here is something else we can think of. if the Rangers need to make a trade.  who do they get rid of?  If the choice was yours, who would you go after to play center with Gaborik.

Do not go saying players like Datsyuk. You know that wont happen. be real! Someone the Rangers may be able to get!
