WWE Fastlane 2015 Results: Bouts That Will Have Biggest Impact at WrestleMania

Aaron BowerFeb 25, 2015

As a pay-per-view that is supposed to whet the appetite ahead of WWE WrestleMania 31, WWE Fastlane provided fans with a glimpse of how the card could be shaping up for the biggest show of the year.

With the odd championship changing hands at Fastlane, it opens up the possibility of feuds continuing to run up to and beyond WrestleMania. There were also plenty of storyline developments that will have a huge impact heading toward Mania.

Naturally, the contest between Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns was certain to influence the WrestleMania card, and with Reigns' victory, we now have a clear idea of who will face Brock Lesnar.

How the WWE will play out the feud is still up in the air, though. Reigns seems to be jumping back and forth between a potential heel turn and a continued run as a babyface, especially judging by his actions at Fastlane.

Reigns was opening up and showing a brutal side in his match with Bryan, which isn't anything to complain about. That's exactly how Reigns should work inside the ring: as a no-nonsense enforcer. However, the handshake between him and Bryan, followed by a warmer one on Raw the following night, suggests that the WWE will keep sticking with Reigns as the good guy against Lesnar.

With over four weeks still to go until Mania, there's every possibility those plans could change yet again.

Elsewhere, the Divas division has been coming into the spotlight in recent weeks, not in the least by the innovative #GiveDivasAChance hashtag that sprung up following Raw this past week.

That all came off the back of a timid match at Fastlane between Nikki Bella and Paige, which ended with an uninspiring finish after Nikki grabbed Paige's tights for the roll-up win.

While those kinds of victories help to build storylines and character development on occasions, it just didn't feel right in this instance. Paige has done a great job of building herself as a credible candidate for Nikki's title in recent months, and having a throwaway result was a bit of a shame.

That disappointing match should act as the touchpaper for the WWE to go for it with the Divas division at WrestleMania. While bringing up someone like Charlotte or Sasha Banks would be the first thing to do to give the division fresh impetus, it has to be done in the right manner.

We've seen with Divas like Emma that bringing people up onto the main roster without any real plans for them can lead to disaster. Whatever the WWE does with the Divas Championship at WrestleMania, this disappointing match at Fastlane must be used as a benchmark from which to improve.

Finally, the finish of the match between Rusev and John Cena is almost certain to lead to a rematch between the two at WrestleMania, which will have a big impact on the card for sure.

The fact that Rusev didn't pick up a clean win here will mean Cena has a legitimate right to go after the United States Championship again, and in this instance, Rusev winning dirty was the right call.

He's not been producing too many of those wins during his unstoppable run, which doesn't help to build him up as a credible heel. However, getting one over in controversial fashion against Cena will have done those fortunes no harm at all.

Unfortunately, it's hard to look past Cena doing the same sort of thing he did last year with Bray Wyatt. He halted Wyatt's growing momentum at WrestleMania XXX, and Wyatt has never been the same since.

That cannot be allowed to happen with Rusev at WrestleMania this year. He and Lana have done a great job of building their run gradually over time, and one crushing defeat could greatly harm their careers.
