Michigan Monday: Five-Star Search

Big House BobAug 17, 2009

Devin Gardner picks up his fifth star from Scouts and is rated the No. 4 QB in the country. Ok, I have been saying star rating don't mean that much, but it's nice to have a five-star player in Michigan's 2010 class. Look for a number of Michigan's committed players that are currently ranked with three stars to get a fourth if they have productive senior years.

  • Brandon Graham is on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list. He is one of 55 defensive guys up for the award.
  • Bradon Minor is one of seven offense players up for the 73rd annual Maxwell Award. Brandon Herron is not up for any awards yet but seems to be in-line for one with the first name of Brandon.
  • Here is an article on Michigan's new S&C Basketball Coach Jon Sanderson.
  • Steve Threet update at ASU. BTW: Did you know they run the spread there? It's a passing spread and the article states RR runs a running spread. It would seem to me a "spread" would be a really good offense if you combined both running and passing. :)
  • Michigan is a 12.5-point favorite to beat Western Michigan in the home opener.

On a side note, I watched Michigan State's Big Ten Network Practice on Saturday. A few observations:

  • They have been in practice for a week and still have their names taped on their helmets. Even head coach Mark Dantonio had a piece of tape on his shirt that said: Coach Dantonio. After a week, you would think everyone might recognize the head coach? Maybe not? BTW: the players also wear practice jersey with numbers on them. Crazy!
  • The MSU QB's looked rusty and not very accurate.
  • The MSU lineman did not look in shape and were carrying a noticeable amount of belly weight. After watching Michigan's BTN practice all of the Wolverines look to be in very good (or "Barwis") shape.
