Vance Walberg Named Kings' Assistant Coach: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Continuing to revamp their coaching staff, the Sacramento Kings have hired Vance Walberg as an assistant.
The team announced the news Monday afternoon:
After an extremely successful coaching career at the prep level and a short, fairly disastrous stint as the head coach at Pepperdine, Walberg has been an assistant for the University of Massachusetts, the Denver Nuggets and, most recently, the Philadelphia 76ers for the past seven seasons.
As USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt pointed out, he brings two very important things: a prior relationship with new Kings head coach George Karl, and a bright offensive mind:
The Kings' official release linked to a video of Walberg explaining his innovative offense, which John Calipari learned and implemented while at Memphis:
Walberg has experience, intelligence and a familiarity with Karl, so his addition figures to be a seamless transition.
The Kings certainly have plenty of work still to do in resurrecting the franchise, but with DeMarcus Cousins and a quickly improving coaching staff, the future is beginning to look brighter.
