Athletes We Love Seeing Away from the Field

While us sports fans all marvel at what athletes do on the field, there are a few players who have proven to be even better at getting our attention away from the games.

Thanks to social media and people posting pics and videos constantly, we're always "in the know" as to what's going on with these athletes, making us feel like we're right there next to them.

As you would imagine, a lot of what they do is fun.

Whether because they're interesting or just a bit wacky, here are the athletes who every sports fan loves seeing away from the field.

Honorable Mention: Joel Embiid

While Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia Sixers is technically a professional hoops player, because he hasn't played a game in his rookie season yet, I figured he loses a little bit of street cred.

Still, that doesn't mean sports fans aren't intrigued by the kid as much as NBA scouts were with him as he entered the draft this year.

That's because Embiid's off-court persona is strong, with him recently hitting up musician Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday—who he has admitted to having a huge crush on.

Who knows how is game on the court will be. But his off-the-court game seems to be All-Star worthy.

Skylar Diggins

Tulsa Shock All-Star Skylar Diggins is one of the top women's hoops stars in the WNBA, and her ability on the court is matched by her off-court antics.

For that reason, it's difficult for sports fans to stay away from her social media sites to see what she's got going on.

Skylar has shown to have a great personality in the past, so who wouldn't find her fun to pay attention to?

JaVale McGee

Thanks to some hilarious gaffes that he has had over the years on the basketball court, Denver Nuggets big man JaVale McGee gained a lot of attention.

It isn't just his bloopers that fans have taken notice in him, though.

That's due to McGee's alter ego, Pierre, who he uses as a character who does some hilarious things anywhere he goes, whether hanging at his house, shopping or driving his car.

Talented on the floor, he's even more talented in his social media game.

The Golf Boys

A group made up of PGA golfers Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler and Ben Crane, the Golf Boys have given sports fans some hilarious music videos over the past few years that prove they are as entertaining with a mic in front of them as they are holding a driver or putter.

These four guys have shown to be some of the new stars on tour, so it's good for everyone to see that, yes, golfers have a little bit of swag, too.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook

Well, look at this, you get two for the price of one on this slide.

That's because Oklahoma City Thunder All-Stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are both talented as hell, entertaining on the court and off and are still young enough that they know how to rep themselves to fans in their same generation.

Although different in personality, the two Thunder players share a love for video games, interesting fashion and represent a new wave of superstars in the league who fans love to see.

Jameis Winston

Go ahead and say what you want to about the former Heisman Trophy and national championship winning quarterback, but there's no denying we all watch Jameis Winston's every move—especially in the past week as he participated at the NFL Scouting Combine.

And with all reports coming out of Indy indicating that Winston killed his interviews and drills, he is about to become the face of an NFL franchise that will, no doubt, be drafted in the first three picks.

For all the dumb stuff he did while in college, Winston appears to have turned the corner—which will only add to his intrigue as the draft gets closer.

Blake Griffin

One of the most interesting athletes on the planet, Los Angeles Clippers All-Star forward Blake Griffin has been doing his thing for more than a few years now, thanks to his numerous commercials and high-soaring slams.

And that's exactly why he's so endearing to fans.

Allowing his personality to shine both on the court and whenever he's in front of the camera, Griffin has a childish enthusiasm about him that makes him one cool dude.

Aaron Rodgers

Much like the aforementioned Griffin, reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has shown his celebrity expand immensely in the past couple of years.

A lot of that is because he continues to prove that he's arguably the best quarterback in the entire league. Another reason is because Rodgers seems to be in every other commercial during the NFL season.

From his patented photobombs before his team's games to his numerous ads, the signal-caller has become the definition of a shining star in the league—and fans are hard-pressed not to enjoy it.

Playing in a city of A-listers and in the shadow of Hollywood, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has shined just about as bright as any in the past couple of years that he has been in the majors.

An absolute freak of nature with the strength and speed of a Bo Jackson, Puig might have had a few instances of immaturity, but his personality is infectious for fans.

Grabbing headlines in the past for missing his team's home opener and weaving down highways at insane speeds, Puig plays with a reckless abandonment in baseball and off the field that makes him quite the character.

Tyler Seguin

Slowly establishing himself as one of the best players in the NHL, Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin has a personality that shines just as bright as his game does.

Known in the past a kid who, probably, partied a little bit too hard, Seguin has reestablished himself since joining Dallas before the 2013-14 season, yet still allows his personality to be put on display for fans to see.

He isn't quite the Johnny Manziel of the NHL, but Seguin has shown that he knows how to have fun for those thousands who check his social sites on the reg.

Nick Young

Unlike many of the athletes on this list, Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Nick Young is far from a superstar, but his quirky personality and witty quotes put him in the same class as a few of the all-time greats.

Not shy on confidence, Swaggy P is often talking as if he's a future Hall of Famer and providing quotes that fans just can't help but laugh at.

Playing with emotion and zeal that rubs off on teammates and fans, Young is a guy who brings swagger and comedy wherever he goes.

J.J. Watt

Not only the best defensive player in the NFL but also one of the most charismatic, the Houston Texans' J.J. Watt knows that when the cameras are rolling, he's going to give an A-list performance.

Hell, even when he's just sitting by himself and tweeting something, he's going to provide some humor, too.

While Watt isn't a party animal, his entertainment comes in different forms, playing with an old-school style that fans love while providing hilarious trash talk that proves he's an absolute baller.

If there's one defender in the league who gets treated with the media respect of a quarterback, it's J.J. Watt.

Leroux isn't afraid to laugh at herself, and for that, we should all thank her.

Speaking of that costume with Leroux, the other person in that duo was Sydney's national team teammate Alex Morgan, who might just be every sports fan's dream girl.

Blessed with unreal talent on the pitch and a personality that matches it, it's understandable that fans are eager to check out what's going on with her.

She even recently got married, reminding us why being a soccer star in your mid-20s is a pretty good life.

Kobe Bryant

There might not be a more polarizing athlete on the planet right now than the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant.

Even as Bryant has been sidelined and limited to just 41 games in the past two seasons, his stardom hasn't missed a beat—and a lot of that comes because he still remains in the news, making appearances and giving interesting details of his career.

Bryant might be one of the fiercest competitors in the history of sports, but he lets his personality come through a little bit more when not on the floor, making him someone hard to dislike.

While his Lakers haven't been a title contender in a few years, Bryant remains to be the main attraction in a league full of superstars.

Marshawn Lynch

He might be the most misunderstood athlete on the planet right now—and that seems like exactly how Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch wants it.
