NFL Combine Schedule 2015: TV Info, Live Stream and More for Day 5

Sean ODonnellFeb 22, 2015

The 2015 NFL Scouting Combine was lit up by Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White and several other top offensive prospects on Saturday, but Sunday is all about defense.

Day 5 of the combine features the best defensive linemen and linebackers of this year's draft class, as they attempt to impress league scouts, coaches and executives with stellar workouts. The defensive end, defensive tackle and outside linebacker positions are very deep with talent at the top of the draft, so Sunday's participating prospects will he hard-pressed to stand out from the pack.

Even though these prospects have yet to take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium, headlines have already begun to generate around the web. Before we delve into the current buzz and what to expect on Sunday, let's take a look at all of the essential viewing information for Day 5.

Ray Won't Run

Missouri's Shane Ray is one of the draft's most heralded defensive ends. The 6'3", 245-pound prospect is known for his explosiveness off the line and quickness around the edge. He doesn't have ideal strength, but his speed makes up for any power-related shortcomings.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to gauge exactly what kind of speed he brings to the table Sunday, as he revealed a foot injury would keep him from running the 40-yard dash during his press conference, via Chase Goodbread of NFL.com.

Said Ray, "Unfortunately (Sunday) I won't be able to perform because of an injury I had in my bowl game with my foot. So everything that is listed for tomorrow as far as the 40, and all the athletic drills, I'll be doing on my pro day."

Currently, Ray is projected as a top-10 pick by many analysts. Since he'll be performing these drills at his pro day, this isn't likely to affect his draft stock much. However, it's certainly something to monitor.

Size Matters

Nebraska linebacker Randy Gregory was strongly considered a top-five pick and was drawing comparisons to Aldon Smith of the San Francisco 49ers. However, his draft stock took a slight hit Friday when he was measured in at 6'5" and 235 pounds. His weight is actually lower than his recorded playing weight with the Cornhuskers, drawing concerns regarding his ability to bulk up.

Bleacher Report's Ian Kenyon really puts Gregory's weight into perspective with this tweet:

The concern here is Gregory's ability to play with physicality in the trenches. He's one of the draft's most prolific pass-rushers, but he could have difficulty holding up at the point of attack against bigger offensive linemen at just 235 pounds. Here's what draft analyst Mike Mayock had to say, via Mike Huguenin of NFL.com:

"

I would hope that he can put another 15 or 20 pounds on in the next couple of years. You'd love to see him at 260 or so, so he can be a little more physical. That's where he needs to get better. He needs to be a little more physical in the attack and run game, but he's got everything you want as a potential pass-rushing maniac at the next level.

"

If Gregory is to play defensive end, he'll need to gain the weight Mayock suggests. Still, if teams that run a 4-3 base defense are worried he won't be able to keep his weight up, they could opt to look elsewhere, as Gregory would likely be relegated to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

Yes, it's still too early to make ultimate determinations about Gregory's weight, but it's certainly something to watch for while he works out on Sunday.

Is Big Cat the Top Dog?

USC defensive tackle Leonard Williams is affectionately known as "Big Cat" due to his cat-like quickness and lion's mane of hair. He's an absolute monster in the trenches at 6'5" and 302 pounds, boasting a freakish combination of athleticism and power. Strong on the interior and quick on the edge, Williams can flourish in any position along the defensive line.

There are many draft analysts who agree that Williams is the No. 1 prospect in this year's draft, and despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seemingly ready to take a quarterback with the top pick, this former Trojan still has a shot to go first.

Here's what NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah had to say about Williams, via Goodbread, "Leonard Williams, from all the guys I've seen so far, has been the most dominating player. Everything you want—the size, the length, the explosiveness, the versatility. You can play him all over the line on defense. He reminds me a lot of Richard Seymour. That's pretty good company to keep."

Sure, Winston put on quite a show at the combine. However, there are still questions regarding his checkered past. If for some reason the Buccaneers don't feel comfortable selecting the former Seminole as the face of the franchise, and Mariota doesn't seem to fit the team's scheme, Williams may be next in line for consideration at No. 1 overall.

After all, would putting a force like Williams next to the dangerous Gerald McCoy be such a bad thing? Talk about giving opposing quarterbacks nightmares. If Williams delivers a big showing on Sunday, this scenario shouldn't be considered very far-fetched.
