Here's a Compilation of Pau Gasol Roaring His Primal Yawp

Dan CarsonFeb 18, 2015

Update: February 18, 2015

Dylan Connolly says the Gasol screams he used to patch together this compilation were pulled from only eight (!) games, meaning my .8 PYPG estimate was off by a whopping 4.2 primal yawps.

Lesson learned. Always—always—take the over on Gasol screams.

---End of Update---

Pau Gasol is having one of his better years in recent memory after signing with the Chicago Bulls

The former Los Angeles Laker is averaging 18.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game this season, and he appears primed to break a personal record in another, less-scientific but semi-measurable category: primal yawps.

Gasol, a known screamer and a talented one at that, is on course to end the 2014-15 season with .8 primal yawps per game (PYPG). I base this number on a compilation video by The Bulls Zone’s Dylan Connolly (h/t Bulls On Parade's Adam Howes), who has stitched together footage of Gasol screaming his head off in a Bulls uniform.

The video (a splendid little work) lasts just over a minute, with Gasol ripping off somewhere around 40 spine-tingling war cries, give or take a grunt. Somewhere around the 50-second mark you begin to appreciate the man’s consistency in screaming regardless of what is happening.

I should note my .8 PYPG prediction for Gasol is a conservative one. With just under 30 games to play in the regular season and the potential for a deep postseason run in the cards for Chicago, that number could balloon to 1.0 or higher.

The postseason is a pressure cooker, and the Spaniard could catch fire with a string of clutch, primordial howls in big-game situations. You can’t rule out anything with a veteran of Gasol’s caliber.

Dan is on Twitter, trying to make the screaming stop.
