Much of the trade talk in Phoenix lately has surrounded Goran Dragic, who is set to become a free agent in the summer.
However, according to sources cited by Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, general manager Ryan McDonough is instead attempting to trade Green and Isaiah Thomas to clear the backcourt clog and entice Dragic to re-sign.
Wojnarowski does note that there are "no assurances Phoenix will find a deal for them."
On the season, Green is averaging a career-high 22 points per 36 minutes. However, he's shooting just 41.4 percent from the field and his usage has dropped considerably as of late, averaging just 15.7 minutes per game over his last 13, including a healthy DNP in late January.
He talked about the frustration due to the lack of playing time, via AZCentral.com's Paul Coro:
"It's tough. I ain't going to lie. It's hard. Man, it's hard. I've just got to just figure it out. At the end of the day, I'm a professional. I've got to continue to work hard. I've got to continue to motivate my teammates. When I got my time to play, I'll be ready. But it's hard as hell. I ain't going to lie. It's hard to deal with.
"
Still, Green makes for an enticing offensive piece off the bench for a contender. He's a dangerous—albeit inconsistent—three-point shooter and elite athlete, and perhaps a new environment would help him shake his recent funk.
It doesn't sound like anything is close at this point, but if Phoenix finds the right trade partner, there is potential here to help everyone involved.
