Yahoo Sports: Lee Could Be Dealt Before Deadline

Tuesday, Feb. 17

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the future of Draymond Green is directly tied to what happens with Lee:

"

For the Warriors to find a way to keep Green, they'll have to move David Lee and the $15 million owed him in the 2015-16 season. Ownership has instructed management in Golden State that it doesn't need to find a deal for Lee before the trade deadline, because the organization simply doesn't want to upset the balance and chemistry of a championship contender.

"

Green is a restricted free agent after this season and according to Wojnarowski "has a significant interest with pursuing an offer sheet with his hometown Detroit Pistons."

With the Warriors owning the NBA's best record at the All-Star break (42-9), it doesn't make sense to destroy something that is working so well. Simple logic would say to ride out this year since a championship looks more attainable now than ever.

However, while he is valuable due to his size, Lee hasn't been a key component for the Warriors this season. He's appeared in 27 games, averaging 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

The 31-year-old is a good bench player, but if the Warriors can find a solid deal that will allow them to sign the more valuable and younger Green to a long-term extension, it's worth exploring all the options available involving Lee.
