Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Edinson Cavani and Godfred Donsah

Rob BlanchetteFeb 17, 2015

Reports from the continent suggest Edinson Cavani will join Arsenal in the next transfer window, with the Gunners set to have an "offer accepted by Paris Saint-Germain."

Jamie Sanderson of Metro cites Fichajes.net's declaration that the mercurial striker will leave France for the Premier League, with Arsene Wenger on the verge of making a "major effort" to secure the £50 million-rated Uruguayan's services.

The news comes after Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star reported that Cavani might be on his way to Old Trafford to replace the failing Radamel Falcao in Manchester United's attack.

Cross says Louis van Gaal and United planned to make the striker one of the most expensive players on the planet with a £60 million offer, as an anonymous source of the Daily Star claims Cavani is prepared to exit PSG: "Edinson Cavani has been targeted as the big-name striker the club wants and United are confident of pulling it off. He has not settled in Paris and is looking for a new challenge at another big club, so United fit the bill."

But it now seems Arsenal are in pole position to purchase the attacker and add him to their ever-growing list of superstar players after the arrivals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make a huge impact at PSG, always overshadowed by the dominant presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who forces Cavani into the wider attacking roles.

However, he has continually delivered a good set of numbers, scoring 13 times in 28 Ligue 1 and Champions League appearances, per WhoScored.com.

But despite his reported dissatisfaction, by Cross, freelance football writer and Bleacher Report contributor Kristian Sturt confirms Cavani is in no rush to leave his Parisian home and that his family are settled in the French capital:

In other news, Arsenal look set to miss out on teenage talent Godfred Donsah, with Tottenham Hotspur now ready to sign the Cagliari midfielder.

According to Calciomercato.com (h/t Jack Green of London24.com) the White Hart Lane club lead the way for the youngster, who has drawn comparisons with Michael Essien.

Green also says Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have set their sights on the burgeoning talent.

And Jamie Sanderson of Metro reports the Gunners have scouted the player, but it appears their north London rivals look set to "win the race."

With Spurs reportedly swooping in on Donsah, Arsenal's focus will likely fall on Cavani. At his best, he is an extraordinary talent, but he has failed to fully shine during his time at PSG. Much of this has to do with Laurent Blanc's use of the attacker, forcing him into wider areas and thus affecting his potency and predatory instincts.

But it is difficult to see Wenger use Cavani purely as a striker, with the style of Olivier Giroud being more suited to the lone striker position than the Uruguay international.

At Arsenal, Cavani could find himself back in the wide positions, meaning he'll be no better off at the Emirates than he currently is at the Parc des Princes.
