The much anticipated Fiftyย Shades of Grey movie hit theaters this past weekend, and like many people, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson went to check it out.

Wilson sent out this tweet on Friday that let his fans know he had seen the R-rated movie:

Russell Wilson @DangeRussWilson

Thanks for the early showing of #50ShadesOfGrey late last night.. #EmeraldCity ๐Ÿ—ป๐Ÿš ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€ Great movie.

Given that Wilson has made it known he is a very religious person, many people were shocked that the 26-year-old quarterbackย would go see the naughty film.

Nathan Hodges @hodgesperio

@DangeRussWilson man why support that garbage?

Matt Krachunis @krachunis

@DangeRussWilson COME ON MAN!!! THAT MOVIE IS MORAL FILTH!!!

Jim Jacobson @JimJacobson

@DangeRussWilson why are you promoting #50shadesoftrash ? I'm surprised.

Seth Coelen @WhatsNewSaes

.@DangeRussWilson Don't say you represent Christ, and the publicly endorse a moved filled with immorality and sexual violence.

Wilson later explained why he went to seeย Fifty Shades of Grey:

Russell Wilson @DangeRussWilson

Saw a movie filmed in the town I call home. Provocative/disturbing no doubt but that does not make me less Faithful. Have a blessed day! ๐Ÿ˜‡

The Seahawks star wants everyone to chill and realize it was just a movie. Hopefully, the fans are willing to accept that and move on.ย

As for what Wilson's teammates think of their quarterback going to see the movie, Seattle punter Jon Ryan shared his thoughts on the situation:

Jon Ryan @JonRyan9

People upset w/our QB for going to 50 Shades of Grey: your head would explode if u saw the rest of the team's Internet browser histories

Maybe going to see a movie like this isn't so bad after all.
