Kansas City Chiefs: Latest Offseason News and Rumors
The Kansas City Chiefs enter the offseason knowing that they are a couple of pieces away from returning to the playoffs. However, with the team in a bind in the salary cap, it won't be easy filling in those gaps and becoming a complete football team.
With the combine approaching and free agency coming up shortly afterward, plenty of news and rumors begin to swirl throughout the league.
Here are some of the top notable news bits that involve or relate to the Chiefs for 2015.
Justin Houston and the Chiefs to Re-Negotiate
1 of 4
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston and his agent are looking to try again to agree to a long-term contract. Houston and the Chiefs failed to come up with a deal prior to the 2014 season that worked to Houston's benefit.
Although Houston was underpaid and made just $1.4 million this past season, logging 22 sacks gives him plenty of leverage in the negotiation process.
With the Chiefs currently in a bind financially, the franchise tag may come into play, but an agreement to a new deal could come later in the offseason when the Chiefs free up cap space.
Is Jeremy Maclin Considering a New Team?

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and Chiefs backup quarterback Chase Daniel were recently inducted into the University of Missouri Hall of Fame. During the event, the Chiefs wrote a congratulatory tweet to both Daniel and Maclin.
NJ.com picked up on the tweet, having some fun with it and joking that the Chiefs were making an attempt to reach out to Maclin. The Chiefs have a reason to congratulate both players, as they both played at Missouri, and there is a strong contingency of Tigers fans in the Kansas City area.
However, with Maclin's recent comments, a Maclin-Andy Reid reunion in Kansas City is not out of the question.
Tod Palmer of The Kansas City Star tweeted that Maclin said working with someone familiar is a good backup option in case he does not return to Philadelphia.
Reid drafted Maclin in 2009 in Philadelphia before leaving the Eagles and joining the Chiefs following the 2012 season.
Chase Daniel Confident He Returns

Despite the recent addition of Terrelle Pryor, Chase Daniel is certain that he will return to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2015 for the final year of his contract with the franchise.
Daniel spoke to the media during the night of his induction to the MU Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and said he thinks he will be the primary quarterback behind Alex Smith as his value went up a bit after an impressive Week 17 win when both the Chiefs and Chargers needed a win to get into the postseason.
Daniel, however, is set to make $4.8 million in 2015, which is plenty of money for a backup. With Kansas City in need of freeing up cap space, Daniel could be a cap casualty or be used for trade bait in attempt to get a late-round draft pick.
Peyton Manning Wants to Stay in Denver
4 of 4
Although John Elway went through a coaching shift with the Denver Broncos, it appears he may get his elite quarterback for 2015. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Peyton Manning told the Broncos that he wants to return to the franchise next season.
Despite the fallout in the second half of the season and the postseason struggle against the Colts, Manning is still considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In fact, he has been a thorn in the side of the Chiefs.
Since declining the Chiefs' offer in 2012 when he was a free agent, Manning joined the Broncos and has gone 6-0 against the Chiefs since then. The Broncos have won the AFC West and also earned a first-round bye in the postseason each year since Manning's arrival.
If things continue, the Broncos will continue to dominate in the regular season but will want more from him in the postseason after massive improvements were made last offseason.
With just a couple of improvements needed from the Chiefs, they hope to beat Manning and take away the AFC West title this time.
