Decorated American Olympian Lauryn Williams, who is one of only five athletes to earn medals in different sports at both the Summer and Winter Games, has announced her retirement from bobsled.

She discussed the decision in a release, via TeamUSA.org:

I spent a lot of time going back and forth about whether do another season. As an athlete I am exhausted having done sports since age nine and competing professionally for the last 10 years. Yet, I fell in love with bobsled after just six months and wish I had found it sooner. It really poured a refreshing sense of life into my heart, which was just what I needed at this point in my life.

The large majority of Williams' athletic career was on the track, where she won silver in the 100-meter dash at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and gold in the 4X100 relay at the 2012 London Games. She also owns three gold medals at the World Championships.

After retiring from track and field in the summer of 2013, she quickly picked up bobsledding, made the U.S. national team and less than a year later won a silver medal with driver Elana Meyers Taylor in Sochi.

As The Associated Press' Tim Reynolds suggested, she was as kind off the ice—or track—as she was talented on it:

The 31-year-old returned for some World Cup races this winter, but ultimately, this was a decision that many were anticipating. As one of the most successful and unique Olympians this country has ever seen, she has nothing left to prove.
