Cushing Had Procedures on Ankle and Knee Following Last Season

Saturday, Feb. 28

Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston provided comments from Cushing, who spoke about two other procedures he underwent this offseason, in addition to wrist surgery:

"

I also had my knee and ankle just cleaned out after the year (in January)," Cushing said in an interview with FOX26 Sports. "Just the residual effects of two major surgeries and injuries, you know the wear and tear of playing throughout the season.

There were still some things bothering me a little bit. Just went in there and had real good success in both areas, and looking forward to a very healthy and productive next season.

Cushing Underwent Wrist Surgery

Thursday, Feb. 12

He revealed that he played part of the season with the injury, via ESPN.com's Tania Ganguli:

"

I got surgery because it was something that had to be fixed.

But I was playing with it broken for a while. ... It was kind of one of those things, after a game I woke up and it was sore. I've bumped my wrist before ... didn't think it was a big deal, got a little better, got a little worse. This kept getting worse and worse. I figured something was up with it.

"

Cushing, who was also still recovering from a pair of major knee surgeries, played 14 games last season. He finished with 72 combined tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. It was an up-and-down season, but whether it was his knee or wrist, he was never really at full strength.

In 2011, the last season he played a full 16 games, Cushing was a crucial part of Houston's defense and made plays all over the field.

The Texans will be hoping a few months off can finally get him back to that point, but the amount of injuries for the 28-year-old is starting to become concerning.
