Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald first reported the news Tuesday, Feb. 10, citing multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.

Will Manso of Local 10 News in Miami weighed in on the development:

The 2015 MLB All-Star game will be played in Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park, as Miami's attempt to host was spurned, per Spencer.

One exciting element to Marlins Park hosting the All-Star Game a few years from now is that the home fans ought to have a chance to witness more of their players participating.

Young outfielder Giancarlo Stanton figures to be a perennial All-Star, but the Marlins still have some developing to do before they're back in contention. They haven't made the postseason since winning the World Series in 2003, though Miami did show improvement in 2014 with a 77-85 record.

Marlins Park, a relatively new stadium that opened in 2012, has plenty of time to promote the All-Star event and establish itself in a big way as a young venue. With things set in stone, the franchise can now begin to prepare for this major event.
