CeCe Jefferson Officially Joins Florida After Delaying Commitment
CeCe Jefferson certainly kept Florida and the school's fans waiting. After announcing he would join the school on national signing day but failing to send in his letter of intent, Jefferson has officially joined the school.
Earlier in the day, Jefferson noted that he would be sending in his letter of intent to Florida:
And Florida head coach Jim McElwain verified on Twitter that Jefferson would be joining the Gators:
Jefferson is considered a 5-star strong-side defensive end by 247Sports. Standing 6'2" and weighing 275 pounds, he ranks as the No. 7 prospect in the Class of 2015, the No. 2 player at his position and the No. 4 player from the state of Florida, per the ranking site.
Jefferson donned the Gators cap on ESPN during the national signing day broadcast and was expected to fax in his letter of intent the next day, but his father, Leo Jefferson, was apparently not thrilled with the decision and delayed the proceedings, according to Luke Stampini of 247Sports. Florida got its guy in the end, however.
And Jefferson will be expected to make a major impact on Florida's program and compete for a starting spot on day one. This is certainly a big day for the Gators, even if they expected a signed letter of intent a bit earlier than they got one.
