Jamal Lewis' Super Bowl Ring Gifted to Him by Ravens Owner Sold at Auction

Joseph ZuckerFeb 8, 2015

Former NFL running back Jamal Lewis auctioned off a Super Bowl ring awarded to him by Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti. The ring fetched $50,820, per ESPN.com's Darren Rovell.

"Jamal is one of the all-time Ravens greats. This ring was hotly contested and we saw a lot of interest from Ravens fans," said Ken Goldin, who runs the auction house in Maryland that sold the ring.

"It's a tremendous price for a retired player who got it as [an] honorary gift, as opposed to being an active member of that team," Goldin added, per Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

After the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII, Bisciotti handed out rings to some of the franchise's greatest legends. Lewis was included in that group, having rushed for 7,801 yards and 45 touchdowns in his six years with Baltimore. He also played a key role in the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV triumph.

Wilson noted that Jonathan Ogden, Matt Stover, Michael McCrary and Peter Boulware were among the other former Ravens to receive the honorary ring.

Lewis retired after the 2009 season and has since run into financial trouble. He filed for bankruptcy in 2012, with $10.6 million in debts and assets totaling $14.5 million.

In his nine years in the NFL, Lewis ran for 10,607 yards and 58 touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2003.
