Andy Murray Strolls Past Ferrero Into Quarter-Final

David WyattAug 13, 2009

Andy Murray found some blistering form in blistering heat at Montreal to dispatch of Carlos Ferrero in straight sets 6-1,6-3.

The on-form Brit will meet either Fernando Gonzalez or Nickolay Davedenko in the last 16 as he looks to progress on his favoured hard court.

Right from the outset you could see that there was only to be one winner on the day, Murray played beautiful shots from either side and dominated the baseline.

His power and precision proved too much for Ferrero who has been victim to Murray's form over the past couple of months. Murray knocked Ferrero out at Queens and at Wimbledon and now at Montreal. Ferrero will be hoping to avoid the Brit at the US open this year.

You would be forgiven for thinking that this was a exhibition for Murray at times, on numerous occasions he dragged the Spaniard from one side to the other, to the net and back again. He rarely faced any pressure on his own serve and he constantly pressured Ferrero on his.

Murray is in fine form at the minute, and has to be one of the favorites for the US Open.

Murray had this to say at the end of the short match:

"It was very good, he's a very tough player, I played really well and when I needed to came up with some big first serves"

"I'm hitting the ball really well from the back of the court."

The simple fact is that Murray is perhaps playing the best tennis of his career right now, and his clean strike on the ball especially from the back court have improved extensively over the past few months.

Murray marches on and will hope to claim the Montreal title, if he continues to play in this manner, then there is reason to believe he may well do that.
