Money in the Bank contract holder Seth Rollins has been losing on WWE television at an alarming rate, but the porous recent booking will all be forgotten if he becomes the first person to ever successfully cash in the briefcase on the WrestleMania stage.
Regardless of which Superstar is holding the WWE Championship at the end of WrestleMania 31, Rollins should be the one who walks out of Silicon Valley with the belt around his waist.
While Rollins has been taking more losses than many fans think he should, he is still involved in the top storylines in the company and looks like the second-most powerful heel on the roster after Brock Lesnar. The recent defeats could just be used as a way to distract the fans from the possible cash-in attempt.
After watching Rollins square off against Lesnar and John Cena at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view for the WWE Championship, it became abundantly clear he embraced the pressure and can perform on the same level as the top stars in the business.
Rollins proved at Royal Rumble he truly is one of the cornerstones of the future for WWE.
Not only is Rollins one of the most gifted athletes in the ring from a technical and high-flying perspective, but he is also one of the best younger wrestlers on the roster when it comes to telling an in-ring story.
What made the match against Lesnar and Cena so good was his ability to tell a convincing story that explained why everything in the bout was happening. No stone was left unturned, and that attention to detail shows he’s ready to be a top dog.
Add in the fact Rollins has emerged as one of the best talkers in the business right now, and the 28-year-old has done everything in his power to improve. With all the tools to be a top star, all that’s left to do is make an impact in the biggest way possible.
Of the 14 previous Money in the Bank cash-in attempts, none have ever come at a WrestleMania event. With 12 of the 14 attempts being successful, Rollins deserves to be the first man to ever accomplish the feat at WrestleMania 31. After an incredible 2014 and with the backing of The Authority, making a lasting impression on the biggest stage in the sport would be the most memorable way for Rollins to use the briefcase.
As much as Bryan is being teased to enter the main event scene with a victory over Roman Reigns at the inaugural Fast Lane PPV, the majority of the WWE Universe believes Reigns will win the match and head to WrestleMania to square off against Lesnar.
There have been rumors of Lesnar leaving the WWE to return to the UFC and a MMA career, and a cash-in attempt at WrestleMania could provide the distraction needed if the current WWE champion really does walk away from wrestling.
Lesnar is a legitimate PPV draw and losing him would be a blow to the business. One way to distract the WWE Universe from the loss would be having Reigns defeat Lesnar in the main event and have Rollins immediately cash in his briefcase and steal the championship.
If this outcome comes to fruition it would kill two birds with one stone. Not only would Lesnar’s potential departure be overshadowed by his loss and the subsequent cash-in, but it would also set up a marquee feud between Reigns and Rollins moving forward the WWE Universe would genuinely care about.
The WWE has spent months building Rollins as one of the top stars in the company, and it has resulted in the young star being viewed as one of the biggest names in the business. With a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity staring the WWE right in the face, it’s time to act.
Rollins must walk out of WrestleMania 31 with the WWE Championship.
