Josh King to Michigan State: Spartans Land 4-Star DE Prospect
There's a new king on Michigan State's campus. Josh King, that is, as the highly regarded prospect chose to commit to the Spartans Friday.
Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports reported the news:
"During a ceremony at his Hinsdale South school on Friday morning, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound King gave his commitment to the Spartans over offers from the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee and USC.
"The coaching staff is phenomenal to me," King said. "It feels like a family there, people you can connect to. I visited Michigan State many times and each time it gets better and better. I loved it.
It felt like home."
"
King, a 6'6" and 250-pound defensive end from Hinsdale South High School in Illinois, is considered the No. 75 prospect in the 2016 class, the No. 6 strong-side defensive end and the No. 1 prospect in his state, per 247Sports.
King is an excellent athlete. Along with excelling on the football field, he is also one of the best wrestlers in Illinois. That sort of athletic versatility is always excellent to see, and the skills he's picked up on the mat will surely help him in the trenches on a football field, as he looks to elude offensive tackles.
He's also a hard worker and a competitor, which is often the difference between a good player and simply a good prospect.
"What I like best about him, when you challenge him, he raises his level of play," Hinsdale South football coach Mike Barry told Scott Phillips of CSN Chicago. "And that is something that is a lot of times overlooked. But he thrives on achieving after being challenged."
He'll certainly be challenged at the next level, but his ability to thrive both on the football field and on the wrestling mat bodes well for his smooth transition to the college game. His excellent size, athleticism and work ethic are all traits that his coaches will love.
Michigan State is banking on King being a good one. All indications, to this point, are that the versatile King will live up to the hype.
