Madden 10 Debuts: My Life Is Over

Going out, seeing friends, having a good time. It was nice while it lasted.

With Friday's release of Madden NFL 10 (available at midnight)—not to mention the start of the football season—I will be attached to my HDTV till the New Year, and then some.

The release of Madden is always an exciting time, even if Chris Collinsworth is commentating. You get the new rosters, the new rookies, the new playbooks, and to see all of the improvements and enhancements EA Sports has made from the previous year.

What type of enhancements?

Dynamic player towels! It sounds dumb at first, but if you've ever played football you'll know how cool towels are. Boobie Miles wore one that said "Terminator X", Walter Payton wore one that said "Sweetness 34", and now all 53 players on my Madden franchise can wear one.

Besides towels there’s new sweet enhancements like Super Bowl patches, nine-man gang tackles, and sweet new uniforms—the Jags new helmet even changes colors in the sun.

But there is more to Madden than how the players look, there is the way you play the game and how the game is played.

For the first time ever NFL football was doing something last season that video game NFL football was not. The Wildcat.

Everyone was doing it, except for my teams in Madden. This season, that will change.

Bringing the Wildcat to Madden will revolutionize the game, especially the online gaming experience. There is a whole new scenario to consider when picking your defense and depending on how flexible the Wildcat formation is, it could be unstoppable in the right hands.

Now before Madden die-hards jump on me, you could do the Wildcat in Madden 09 if you also had Head Coach 09, created the playbook, and imported it into Madden.

But I was too busy playing the game to do all of that.

The players are crisper, the motion is cleaner, and the grass is greener. Now go get your last bit of sun before Madden 10 hits your console!
