Cincinnati Reds Roundtable No. 5

Cliff EasthamAug 13, 2009

Come on in, get a cup of coffee, and have a seat. It is time for our weekly roundtable to begin.

After dropping the series to St. Louis, we now find ourselves 15 games below the equator and 13.5 out of first place. It seems like Albert Pujols finds a way to beat us all the time.

Last night he did it by going yard and by knocking Homer Bailey out of the game in the first inning with a line drive to the foot.

Injuries continue to run rampant through the Reds' roster. Scott Rolen seems to be a victim of the talk-and-die syndrome. He came back after being beaned by Marquis a couple weeks ago. He even hit a home run but now is on the DL due to "concussion like" symptoms.

I thought it would take a little longer for him to hit the shelf. Since coming down from Toronto, he is 2-for-14 in four games with one home run.

Russell, do you have an injury update, sir?

Justin Lehr had another decent outing against the Cardinals, picking up his second win in a row.

Illya, can you tell us what you think our rotation will be like in the next week or two?

Ryan Hanigan finds himself in a slump, wearing a size 20 collar in his last few games. Craig Tatum has been there to stand in the gap for him, sad to watch as it may be.

The Washington Nationals will come to town for a four-game set starting tonight. They were riding an eight-game winning streak before dropping their last two to the Braves.

I am so glad to see Matt Holliday leave town. He went 7-for-12 against us this series and is hitting .486 since coming over from Oakland.

I noticed the other day that Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo both cleared waivers. That is hardly a surprise. Has anyone heard anything through the grapevine about either one of them?

I guess that does it for this week. See you next Thursday. Thanks for coming.
