WWE Fast Lane 2015: Undercard Matches Fans Deserve to See

Brad JonesFeb 5, 2015

This week on Raw, we learned that the main event of Fast Lane will see Roman Reigns take on Daniel Bryan in a match with major WrestleMania implications. It's a match that is sure to be controversial, but the pay-per-view needs more than an intriguing closer for its first outing to be memorable.

With several midcard feuds bubbling away ahead of WrestleMania, it will be interesting to see who gets a spot on the Fast Lane card, which comes roughly a month before the Showcase of the Immortals. This is the time that the WWE roster is most hungry for the spotlight, and these are the feuds that are most deserving of it.

John Cena vs. Rusev

This match, expected for WrestleMania, will now happen at Fast Lane, and it's an exciting prospect. Seeing Cena challenge for the United States Championship is a refreshing change, and a fresh matchup like this is always worth seeing.

The sheer amount that Cena has to wrestle means that he's liable to take some matches at an easier pace, just as the top stars of any promotion have done in the past. However, when he's presented with a new contender, there's always a chance that the right chemistry will bring out something special from the leader of the Cenation.

That said, this match isn't about Cena—it's about Rusev. One of the most successful NXT graduates to date, Rusev has been on a tear ever since he made his main roster debut at the 2014 Royal Rumble. As his confidence as grown, his capabilities have too, and the future looks bright for The Bulgarian Brute.

A clash with Cena can cause a promising up-and-comer to stall, but we hopefully won't see Rusev suffer the same fate. This feud looks set to span past WrestleMania, so expect to see something unique to keep audiences intrigued all the way to the Grandest Stage of Them All.

The Usos vs. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

WWE's tag team division is in a strange spot at present. There's plenty of talent around, but despite that, we're often presented with the same matches week after week. Admittedly, there are teams who can make this work, but it's time for a fresh feud to revitalize the title scene.

The Usos are an excellent fan favourite tag team, having built a strong following amongst audiences and possessing some real talent in the ring. It seems that they're being primed as WrestleMania opposition for The Ascension, but that bout will have to wait a little longer.

In the meantime, a match pitting The Usos against the ever-entertaining duo of Tyson Kidd and Cesaro would be a huge benefit to the undercard of Fast Lane. All four men are masters between the ropes, and having a Diva in each corner might just add an extra dimension to proceedings.

Tyson Kidd and Cesaro both deserve a spot on the pay-per-view, particularly as they're likely to be relegated to the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal come WrestleMania. This match might not have the biggest implications going forward, but it would certainly be a bout worth watching considering the talent involved.

Dean Ambrose vs. Bad News Barrett

Despite a lengthy feud with Bray Wyatt, it's been difficult to shake the feeling that Dean Ambrose has been lost in the shuffle since the end of his program with Seth Rollins. The Lunatic Fringe needs a new "white whale" to chase, and the Intercontinental Championship would be a fine start.

Both men have a physical style that could make for an enjoyable brawl. This is the sort of match that could work either as a one-off to bolster a pay-per-view or set up an ongoing rivalry that sees the pair trade wins. It's fresh, and there are some legs there.

What's more, the juxtaposition of Barrett's "Bad News" persona and the wildman vibe that Ambrose gives off could make for some great television in coming weeks. They're an easy contrast, and that gives the feud a direction beyond the title being in the mix.

But, if nothing else, this is a pairing that deserves to play out on pay-per-view. Both Barrett and Ambrose get a reaction whenever they're in front of the WWE Universe—why not take advantage of that by pitting them against one another?
