Arsenal Transfer News: Henrikh Mkhitaryan Agent Fuels Gunners, Liverpool Rumours

Nick AkermanFeb 4, 2015

Henrikh Mkhitaryan wishes to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, according to his agent, Mino Raiola.

The Armenian star has never quite delivered on his potential at the Westfalenstadion and is looking to exit once BVB's battle against Bundesliga relegation is decided.

"Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season," said Raiola, per Bild (h/t Stefan Coerts of Goal). "We will have to wait and see what we can do."

Mkhitaryan is currently being linked with clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool, as reported by Jack Bezants of the Daily Mail. He is also being touted for a move to Juventus, after Raiola insisted he would fit in well with the Serie A champions, as per Mediaset Premium (h/t Selene Scarsi of ESPN FC):

"

Mkhitaryan is an extraordinary player, technically and professionally. He can make and score goals and is so useful to the team—he would definitely suit Juve and should be playing in a top-10 club.

He could bring something extra to the Serie A, but I don't know whether Serie A can afford him. Dortmund might be struggling in the league but they don't have financial issues. It is going to be very difficult, almost impossible, for any club—not just the Italian ones—to buy him.

"

Dortmund will most likely be looking to recoup much of the reported £21 million they shelled out for him in 2013. He performed well during his initial season with the club, notching nine goals and 10 assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances, per WhoScored.

However, like the BVB collective, this year has seen a considerable drop in form from the 26-year-old.

He is yet to score or set up a goal in a combined total of 18 appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League this campaign.

Mkhitaryan's best qualities are highlighted below:

Dortmund are currently bottom of the German division and unlikely to feature in European competition next year, ensuring stars such as Marco Reus and Mats Hummels are set to move on.

Mkhitaryan also appears destined to head through the exit with Raiola's comments in mind. Football writer Clark Whitney believes the agent should have revealed his client's intentions at an easier time:

B/R UK's James McNicholas recently discussed a number of potential candidates for Arsenal:

There is a potentially quality capture available here. Both Arsenal and Liverpool emphasise the use of creative attacking midfielders who weave passes through to the forward line. A confident Mkhitaryan is capable of bursting beyond defences and picking his team-mates out with smart, incisive passes. He needs to show more of this if a big move is to follow, however.

Dortmund's plight is likely to be emphasised during the summer. Jurgen Klopp's side have dropped from Champions League finalists to Bundesliga strugglers in less than two seasons, a process which will undoubtedly have the European elite itching to poach their best players.

Despite performing poorly this season, Mkhitaryan still fits into this category.
