USA-Mexico: El Tri's Win at Azteca Proves Gold Cup Victory Was No Fluke

Jo-Ryan SalazarAug 12, 2009

Would you believe that!

In my last article, I slammed U.S. Men's National Team coach Bob Bradley for getting crushed in the worst fashion by Mexico at the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. 5-0. You remember that scoreline, right guys?

I hope you did.

And I did warn the readers here on Bleacher Report that this could be a spur for Mexico's hopes of making the rounds at South Africa next year.

El Tri, paced by Israel Castro and super sub Miguel Sabah, continued the futility for the USA at the Azteca Stadium 2-1.

See? I told you so. Hopefully your heads are out of the clouds by now.

Actually I believe that's going to be one of my favorite phrases, which was coined by the late Socceroo legend Johnny Warren (and no, it's not because Australia were all business against the Republic of Ireland 3-0 in a friendly earlier at Limerick's Thomond Park; I just love the saying).

Just for the record, there was no conspiracy, no jinxing, nothing of that sort. Bad ball movement, atrocious passing, and turnovers were the USA's undoing.

That's two in a row, Bradley.

As it stands, we are still second in the Hexagonal. Even if we get enough points to qualify, I would have to see you get past the group stages just to win back my vote of confidence.

Aside from this, the last thing the American sporting public needs is having to face Ecuador (who are fifth in the CONMEBOL table as of this post) or finishing outside the top four.

I also warned everyone here that the clamors for a change aren't going to go away with results like this. Now they will only get louder as the Bob Bradley death watch rolls on.

El Salvador may have lost to Trinidad and Tobago today, but you can expect that this will be motivation for them.

As for the USA men, the continuing ineptitude against Mexico is something they will need to think about.

Excuse me while I leave message on Gulati's voice mail.
