Blackmon Out vs. Wisconsin With Ankle Injury
Tuesday, Feb. 3
Indiana will be without star freshman James Blackmon Jr. for Tuesday night's game against No. 5 Wisconsin after he suffered an undisclosed ankle injury in Saturday's 72-64 win over Rutgers, head coach Tom Crean announced before the game.
Rick Bozich of WDRB had the news:
After Wisconsin's 92-78 win, Crean commented on Blackmon via Sam Beishuizen of idsnews.com:
Blackmon scored 20 points and had five rebounds against the Scarlet Knights, playing 32 minutes and showing no real sign of injury. Crean did not indicate whether he expected the injury to keep Blackmon out long term. The Hoosiers host Michigan on Sunday, so he should have enough time to recover if it's only a minor sprain.
Keeping Blackmon out against the Badgers in Madison, though, will likely eliminate the possibility of an upset. He enters Tuesday as Indiana's leading scorer, averaging 16.5 points to go along with 5.2 rebounds. The Fort Wayne native is also the Hoosiers' second-most reliable three-point shooter behind Yogi Ferrell, which could lead to cramped spacing.
Nick Zeisloft started in Blackmon's place.
