Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. to Auburn: Tigers Land 4-Star DE Prospect

Adam WellsFeb 3, 2015

One day before the circus of National Signing Day, Gus Malzahn has scored a big defensive coup with defensive end Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. giving Auburn a commitment.

According to Andrew J. Bone of Yahoo Sports, citing Tega Wanogho's high school coach Bobby Carr, the defensive end gave Malzahn his word on Tuesday:

Tega Wanogho is listed as a 4-star recruit and No. 8 strong side defensive end in the 2015 class by 247Sports. It speaks to how well scouts view his talent that he is so highly regarded since his playing experience is so limited.

According to John Talty of AL.com, Tega Wanogho only has one season of football under his belt and is coming off leg surgery after fracturing his left tibia/fibula during a basketball game.

Cole Cubelic of ESPN spoke to an assistant coach in the SEC who said that the gap between Tega Wanogho's floor and ceiling are separated by wide margin:

This is the kind of recruit that every school hopes to get. Tega Wanogho isn't going to break a recruiting class if he turns out to be a bust, but his ceiling is so insane that he can make it look vastly better when looking back on it in three or four years.

Auburn needs a lot of help on defense after last year's breakdown. Hiring Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator was a good first step. Now, it's up to him and Malzahn to add the talent to compete. Tega Wanogho is the kind of high-upside get that can make a group better if he develops properly.
