Grier Coming Back To Buffalo
On Monday the Buffalo Sabres welcomed back a familiar face as they signed unrestricted free agent Mike Grier to a one- year contract. This 12- year veteran who has accumulated 147 goals and 198 assists in his career spent just over a year with the Sabres before signing with the San Jose Sharks in the summer of 2006. This 6 foot 1 225 pound forward is coming off a solid year that saw him score 10 goals and 13 assists.
Stewart Signs With The Canadiens
Restricted free agent Gregory Stewart who was an eighth round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2004 re-signed with them earlier this week to a one- year contract. Last season Stewart played primarily in the Amercian Hockey League for the Hamilton Bulldogs where he scored seven goals and 10 assists while piling up 170 penalty minutes. The 23 year-old was rewarded by playing in 20 games with the Canadiens last year and recorded an assist.
Pogge Now A Duck
Justin Pogge who was once considered the future number one goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs was traded earlier this week to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional draft pick in 2011. In 2004 this Alberta native was chosen by Toronto (90th overall) in the 2004 draft but was never able to take advantage of his opportunities. He played well with the Marlies in compiling 26 wins in the AHL with a tidy 2.70 GAA in 53 games. With the big club Pogge only won one of seven games and had a lofty 4.35 GAA.
