The Washington Wizards' Twitter feed congratulated the veteran star:
Never one who could get by on pure quickness or athleticism alone, Pierce is one of the craftiest scorers in NBA history. A remarkably intelligent player capable of creating his own shot no matter the situation, he also has a knack for hitting clutch shots in big moments.
Of course, this milestone isn't just a nod to his talent. It's a testament to his incredible consistency and longevity. In Pierce's first 16 seasons (not counting this year), he has averaged under 16.0 points per game once and missed more than 10 games just twice.
It's unclear how much longer the 37-year-old will play, but he's still in fantastic shape and is proving to be a rock-solid third or fourth option for the Wiz. While his role has decreased (17.2 points per 36 minutes would be his lowest mark ever), his efficiency remains strong with a true shooting percentage (58.9) above his career average, per Basketball-Reference.com.
There is still plenty left in The Truth's tank:
Should he continue to play at his current level, he has a terrific shot at cracking the top 10—passing legends such as Dominique Wilkins and Hakeem Olajuwon in the process—by next season.
