Filip Djuricic to Southampton: Latest Loan Details, Reaction and More

Southampton have completed the signing of Serbian international Filip Djuricic, who joins the club on loan from Benfica for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.    

The recently turned 23-year-old was midway through a season-long loan at Bundesliga side Mainz. He joins the Saints in another temporary deal after cutting short his time in Germany, per their official Twitter account:

Djuricic has made just 22 appearances for Benfica since joining the Portuguese giants in 2013, per Transfermarkt, and will look to revive his previous best in the Premier League.

An attacking midfielder who fits in well as a No. 10, Djuricic's brightest form came during a three-year stint at Eredivisie club Heerenveen. OptaJohan attests to his sterling form in the Dutch top flight:

The aforementioned Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle have transitioned smoothly to the English top flight since being acquired by Ronald Koeman last summer, with the tactician hoping to work similar magic on Djuricic.

Simon Peach of the Press Association quotes the Southampton manager in confirming exactly what it was that brought him to raise interest in the Serbian star:

Though his development hit its share of obstacles in the Primeira Liga, Djuricic may yet find his skill set suits the Premier League well during his temporary spell on England's south coast.

There are no details of the chance to make the playmaker's deal permanent in the summer, but Southampton will wait to see how swiftly their deadline-day signing acclimates before looking to seal a long-term transfer.
