Super Bowl Ads 2015: Funniest and Most Emotional Commercials Shown

Timothy RappFeb 2, 2015

We laughed. We cried. We groaned. We went the bathroom.

This year's Super Bowl ads had an effect on us, one way or another. Below, we'll look back at the most memorable ads from this year's big game.

Best Dad Ad: Dove Men

There were a lot of "dad ads" this year, but this was the best one.

Best Ad That Totally Didn't Make You Cry (Except It Did) Because, Um, Dogs: Budweiser

Anyone who has ever owned, spent time with, pet or played with a dog liked this commercial. And by "liked this commercial," I mean immediately wondered aloud why their house was so dusty.

Most Inspirational Ad: Microsoft

A lot of times, inspirational ads like Microsoft's simply tell an inspiring tale, hoping you connect the feeling of inspiration you derive from the ad to that company's product.

They want you to associate their brand with inspiration without tying the actual product to the commercial. It's pretty manipulative. I mean, it's basically what Budweiser did. But Microsoft's ad is different because it connects the technology it's helped develop to the story told in the commercial.

And it's a really, really great story, so kudos to Microsoft for this one.

Darkest Ad: Nationwide

Oh.

OK then.

I think I'll just curl up into a little ball now.

Best Ad Saving a Bunch of Companies a Bunch of Money: Newcastle

I love how meta this ad is, since this is essentially a condensed version of the Super Bowl commercial experience. So well done, Newcastle and the brands that joined in on the fun, for not only beating the system but making fun of it, too.

Best Reference: Esurance

Hooray for Heisenberg! Hooray for "Sorta Greg"! Hooray for any and all Breaking Bad references. Now all I want is Jesse Pinkman doing a commercial for an athlete's foot cream.

Yeah, itch!

Best Addition to an Existing Campaign: Snickers

Snickers upped its game here, bringing in Danny Trejo and Steve Buscemi to portray Marsha and Jan Brady while also referencing the famous "Marsha broke her nose after getting hit by a football."

Maybe it could stay with The Brady Bunch theme and get Yoko Ono to portray Peter while the kids sing "Time to Change." Call me if you want a script, Snickers.

Funniest Ad: Clash of Clans

Liam Neeson seeking revenge over a freemium game while waiting for a scone?

That's comedy gold, folks.

By the way, the plot of the next Taken film centers around Neeson's scone being kidnapped. The working title is Taken Ate: Scone Warfare.
