Georgia Football: Predicting All the Recruits Who Will Sign on NSD

Brian JonesFeb 2, 2015

National signing day is only days away, and the Georgia Bulldogs are making one last push to have the best class in the country. This past week has been an interesting one, as they gained a commit but also lost one.

But Mark Richt has been hard at work, visiting a top recruit at his home this week, and a couple more top recruits visited the campus this week as well.

What makes this class interesting is that a quarterback won’t be signed, but that has to do with the Bulldogs signing a top quarterback last year with another one committed for the class of 2016.

So here’s a look at all the commits that will sign on national signing day.

Running Back

1 of 6

Recruits That Will Sign: Chris Carson

The running backs for this class will be small, as Chris Carson is the only player committed to the Bulldogs.

It’s understandable because not too many recruits want to compete with Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Keith Marshall for playing time.

Carson is a transfer from Butler Community College and is considered the fourth-best junior college running back in the country, according to 247 Sports.

Carson is not as fast as Michel or as tough as Chubb. But he does have great feet and could compete for the No. 3 running back spot. Marshall will be tough competition, though, as he’s looking to end his career in Athens with a strong 2015 season.

Tight End/Wide Receiver

2 of 6

Tight End Recruits That Will Sign: Jackson Harris

Wide Receiver Recruits That Will Sign: Terry Godwin, Jason Stanley, Michael Chigbu, Darius Slayton

The Bulldogs are set at the tight end position, which is why they are only signing Jackson Harris this year. Harris has great size (6’6’’, 250 pounds) and like Jeb Blazevich, he can run good routes.

As far as wide receivers go, Terry Godwin and Jason Stanley look like they can be playmakers in the future. Godwin can also play cornerback, but it looks as if they will need him at receiver. Stanley has good speed and can get yards after the catch, which is something the Bulldogs have missed the last couple of years.

Offensive Line

3 of 6

Recruits That Will Sign: Sam Madden, DeVondre Seymour, Sage Hardin, Justin Young, Patrick Allen

When it’s all said and done, the Bulldogs will sign five offensive linemen that fit what new offensive line coach Rob Sale wants to do.

As of now, the Bulldogs have four linemen committed, but the Bulldogs have a good chance to getting Patrick Allen to sign this week.

DeVondre Seymour looks to be the best of the bunch. He’s the son of former NFL defensive lineman Richard Seymour, so he has the tools and the teacher to be a great player for the Bulldogs.

But Hardin and Madden are no slouches, either. Both players are not at an elite level, but both have great footwork and know how to run block, which is essential in the Bulldogs' run-first, pro-style offense.

Defensive Line

4 of 6

Recruits That Will Sign: Justin Young, Jonathan Ledbetter, Chauncey Rivers, Trent Thompson, Michael Barnett, DaQuan Hawkins

This could be the best defensive line class the Bulldogs have ever signed.

Trent Thompson is the cream of the crop, but Jonathan Ledbetter, who has already enrolled in school early, is no slouch either.

According to 247 Sports’ Jake Rowe, DaQuan Hawkins recently made his official visit to UGA and should sign with the Dawgs on NSD. There’s also a chance the Bulldogs could get Austin Roberts, who also recently made his official visit to Athens. If the Bulldogs miss out on Roberts, it’s no big deal, because defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker should really like who they have coming in this season.

Linebacker

5 of 6

Recruits That Will Sign: D’Andre Walker, Natrez Patrick, Roquan Smith, Juwan Taylor, Chucks Amaechi

D’Andre Walker and Natrez Patrick and two great outside linebackers who should see a lot of action by 2016. Walker hasn’t visited another school since committing to Georgia, according to Rowe of 247 sports, and Patrick has enrolled early.

Smith is the player the Bulldogs want as he the fifth-best prospect in Georgia, according to 247 Sports.

At the end of the day, he’ll sign with the Bulldogs, because they have made the biggest push to get him. And he’ll be an automatic impact player for them, because he can play inside or outside linebacker.

Secondary

6 of 6

Recruits That Will Sign: Rashad Roundtree, Rico McGraw, Jarvis Wilson, Jonathan Abraham, Deadre Baker, Deontai Williams, Juwuan Briscoe

Rashad Roundtree and Rico McGraw are the two players to watch for moving forward. Roundtree has a chance to start by midseason, and McGraw has not officially committed to the Bulldogs yet, but 247 Sports found out that Smith made the Bulldogs the leader last week, and he also made an official visit on January 30.

The coaches would like one more cornerback before signing day, but they are satisfied with the quality of talent, especially at the safety position.
