Florida State Seminole Recruiting Report: Five Star Linebacker Jeff Luc

With Florida State's well-known reputation of producing great linebackers, it comes as no surprise that they are in the race for blue-chip recruit Jeff Luc. Regarded as one of, if not the best, prep linebackers in the class of 2010, Luc has intangibles that make coaches of top programs around the country salivate with envy.

The Florida native has received offers from 40 of the top schools in the nation, and Florida State currently ranks within his top five choices. Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Georgia are Luc's other top five teams.

Jeff Luc is a physical specimen to say the least. Listed at 6'2" and 240 pounds, Luc runs the 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds. Although not blazing fast, once he gets up to speed he can track down the ball carrier in the open field and deliver a punishing hit.

He is a very hard hitter who displays very good tackling form. Some scouts have even called him a "sure" tackler. One scouting service, describing Luc's hitting prowess, said, "When he finds you, he punishes you."

His physical appearance is unbelievable. He is extremely matured for a prep football player, and his numbers in the weight room display that quite clearly. With a reported bench press of 345 and a squat of 700 Luc leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to the physical aspect of recruiting.

The chink in Luc's armor is a problem with discipline, but that can easily be fixed with better coaching.

As a junior last year, Luc recorded 125 tackles (94 solo), 22 for a loss, one fumble recovery, and one interception. After the season, he was named to the prestigious FSWA 5A Third-Team at linebacker, and was also an All-Area First-Team linebacker.

Florida State will try hard to get a solid commitment from Luc, who is also ranked as one of the Top 10 overall prospects in the 2010 class by multiple recruiting services.

"Luc is like a freak of nature on the high school level. He has size of an NFL linebacker and he plays on another level. He can over pursue the ball at times or jump the play every now and then, but he is the elite of the elite. He hits with force, he drives his body through the offensive player, he moves down hill in a hurry, he is a sure tackler, and he moves in space better than many would expect. Luc is ready for college now"-Chad Simmons, Scout.com.
