Seydou Doumbia to Roma: Latest Transfer Details, Comments and Reaction

AS Roma wasted no time replacing forward Mattia Destro, who officially joined AC Milan on Friday, per the Rossoneri's official Twitter feed, signing CSKA Moscow's Seydou Doumbia on Saturday to add another explosive athlete to their impressive attack.

The Russian club released a statement on their official website, thanking the Ivory Coast international for his contributions to the club:

"

Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia made permanent switch to AS Roma today.

PFC CSKA thanks Seydou for his contribution in the successes of the team in the past years and wishes all the best in his future career!

The 27-year-old helped CSKA win back-to-back Russian titles and will now join the Giallorossi for a fee of €14.4 million, as was announced by UEFA:

The final fee could still rise with add-ons, and his new contract will run until June 2019:

Doumbia is currently away on AFCON duty and will join his new teammates when Ivory Coast exit the tournament.

The Daily Mirror's Alex Richards likes the move from Roma's perspective, although he warns the Giallorossi to keep a close eye on the striker's fitness level:

Like compatriot Gervinho, who has found much success in the Italian capital since making the move from Arsenal, Doumbia relies heavily on his athleticism and raw power. Hardly a refined player, he's not the natural finisher Destro was for the club, but his pace should make him a better fit for Rudi Garcia's system.

Roma need all the firepower they can get their hands on to keep pace with defending champions Juventus in Serie A, and the addition of Doumbia will provide the Giallorossi with yet another proven and productive scorer capable of deciding a match with a single moment of brilliance.
