Always Super Bowl Commercial 2015: Watch 'Like a Girl' Ad

Adam WellsFeb 1, 2015

Even though it should have never taken this long, pop culture's recent outcry to give women the same opportunity as their male counterparts is decidedly praiseworthy.

Feminine-product maker Always hammered that message home with its Super Bowl XLIX advertisement, "Like a Girl."

The commercial plays off the negative assumption underlying the statement of doing something "like a girl," such as running, fighting or throwing a ball.

Always started the "Like A Girl" campaign last June, which served as the inspiration for this particular spot.

Fama Francisco, the vice president of Global Always, told Ron Dicker of The Huffington Post that the company loves the message of this movement so much, a slot during the Super Bowl felt like an appropriate next step.

"We feel so strongly about this, that we're now taking this message to a bigger stage, the Super Bowl, so even more people can join us to champion girls' confidence and change the meaning of 'like a girl' from an insult into something positive and amazing."

Things take off with the young boy who says he didn't offend his sister but "insulted girls." Several young girls are then asked what it means to do various activities "like a girl."

Lo and behold, the young girls doing these activities look a lot like young boys doing them. Some of the biggest sports stars in the world are athletes, such as Ronda Rousey, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, just to name a few.

Just as young boys are so often told they can do anything, especially when it comes to sports, young girls deserve to be told the same thing. Confidence at a young age can change the direction a person takes as they get older.

Always sent that message loud and clear on Super Bowl Sunday.
