Florida State Football: 2015 National Signing Day Wish List

Brandon MellorJan 29, 2015

Florida State is hoping to close the 2015 recruiting cycle strong with several signing-day commitments from some of the nation’s best high school football players.

There are several uncommitted prospects who will be deciding in the coming days about where they'll play collegiate ball. Let's take a look at some of the prospects FSU has on its national signing day wish list.

Iman Marshall

1 of 6

It’s been an uphill battle, but Florida State is in the mix for the No. 1 cornerback in all of high school this recruiting cycle.

Iman Marshall recently took an official visit to Tallahassee and will welcome FSU coaches to his home this week as they make one last pitch to secure the superstar defensive back’s services.

The California native has long been considered a USC lean, but the Seminoles are hoping the opportunity for immediate playing time in Tallahassee with the early NFL departures of P.J. Williams and Ronald Darby will be enough to warrant a cross-country move for Marshall.

Terry Beckner Jr.

2 of 6

The nation’s No. 3-rated defensive tackle, Terry Beckner Jr. (6'4", 293 lbs) would be a huge addition to Florida State’s 2015 class if he elects to sign with the Seminoles.

Becker is strongly considering Missouri, Ohio State and Auburn as well, but the Tigers certainly have the advantage to sign the East St. Louis, Illinois, big man. Beckner will take his final official visit to Columbia, Missouri, to see the Tigers’ campus this weekend, and the 247Sports Crystal Ball is predicting a 69 percent chance he signs with Missouri in the end.

Jordan Scarlett

3 of 6

FSU recently lost its verbal commitment of 5-star tailback Johnny Frasier to North Carolina State, but Jordan Scarlett is more than just a capable backup option. First, though, FSU has to get the nation’s No. 12 running back to flip his commitment from rival Miami.

Florida State coaches visited Scarlett in his South Florida home this week, according to 247Sports, and will welcome the talented tailback to Tallahassee for an official visit this weekend.

The Seminoles aren’t desperate to sign another tailback with star Dalvin Cook already on the roster and 4-star 2015 prospect Jacques Patrick already enrolled in classes—but Scarlett would be a nice signing-day addition to this superstar class.

Kai Locksley

4 of 6

Kai Locksley is the only player on this list who is actually committed to Florida State. But Locksley’s longtime commitment to the Garnet and Gold hasn’t eased the angst among FSU fans.

Locksley, a 4-star athlete who could player either quarterback or wide receiver at the collegiate level, recently took an official visit to Texas, where the quarterback-needy Longhorns successfully gave him something to think about in his recruitment.

Locksley then met with FSU coach Jimbo Fisher and assistant Randy Sanders in his Maryland home and went on record that he is still committed to FSU. But will that last? Because the Seminoles already have two other quarterbacks committed for this class, Locksley could find his path to playing time much shorter in Austin, Texas.

Does he ultimately choose less competition, or does he decide to stick with FSU and study under a proven quarterback developer like Fisher? We’ll find out on national signing day.

Minkah Fitzpatrick

5 of 6

Is Minkah Fitzpatrick, a longtime Alabama verbal commitment, a possible signing-day switch in favor of the Seminoles? It depends on who you ask.

Rumors have surfaced in recent weeks that the 5-star cornerback is someone who could potentially flip to the Seminoles, via Noles247.

If Fitzpatrick signs with Florida State, he would help fill the void left by early draft entrants Ronald Darby and P.J. Williams.

Shelton Johnson

6 of 6

Because the Seminoles are seemingly out of the running for 5-star defensive end Byron Cowart, Shelton Johnson becomes that much more important for FSU.

The 4-star pass-rusher fills an immediate need for the ‘Noles as they are tasked with replacing star Mario Edwards Jr. on the end of their defensive line. Five-star prospect Josh Sweat is already enrolled, but he is coming off a serious senior-season knee injury that will hold him out of spring practices.

Snagging Johnson on signing day would give Florida State one more young and talented player to add to the depth chart for new defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Brad Lawing.
