Super Bowl Odds 2015: Halftime, National Anthem and Patriots vs. Seahawks Props

Steven CookJan 28, 2015

There are better ways to enjoy the 2015 Super Bowl at your Sunday party than repeat trips to the food line, and engaging in prop bets is among the best of them.

In a game as seismic as the Super Bowl, practically every potential happening can be bet upon. Whether it's the hair color of halftime performer Katy Perry, the length of Idina Menzel's national anthem or dozens of things the announcers may or may not mention, the possibilities are endless.

What happens between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in terms of scoring may be anyone's guess, but more concrete and tangible bets can be found elsewhere to satisfy the millions set to tune in Sunday evening.

Which Song Will Katy Perry Perform First at Halftime?

It's like betting on the spread, but for Katy Perry fans.

Alas, with one of the most iconic singers in music gracing this year's halftime show, there are a handful of hit songs that Perry could successfully go with right off the bat. But for all intents and purposes, the list of favorites seems like it's down to two.

The runaway favorites are both "Roar" and "Firework" with 3-2 odds each, and the likelihood of one of those two coming on first should sway voters from any other song selection. While the payout is better, these events are as scripted as can be, and both Perry and network decision-makers will be intent on her starting out with a relevant hit.

Will It Be Mentioned That Pete Carroll Was the Last Head Coach of the Patriots?

Any time NBC's Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth are on the call for a major game, it's always apparent that few—if any—other broadcasting teams could in fact do any better.

And while the fact of Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll facing off against his former employer is old news to those covering the Super Bowl all week, it's a nugget of information not readily known to the average football fan.

In fact, Patriots owner Robert Kraft even brought attention to the last coach he hired before Belichick during media day, admitting in retrospect that he didn't give Carroll a great chance to succeed, per ESPN's Mike Reiss:

You don't hear much about Carroll's roots in New England in today's NFL, largely because it took place more than 15 years ago. But vastly important games such as this can bring out historical context from decades ago.

Michaels is a master at uncovering the interesting facts for the viewing public, and with this far from a known fact in most American homes, you can bet Michaels will at least share that tidbit of information for those who aren't aware.

Forget the commercials, the halftime show and the game itself. This is why more than 100 million folks will be tuning in come Sunday night.

For all of the talk of Deflategate and the supposed damage it has done to head coach Bill Belichick's reputation, there's still a football game to be played Sunday evening. And that means Belichick is dusting off his favorite—likely sleeveless—hoodie to don with his typical "I don't care if you think this looks hideous" personality.

Belichick tends to go either light grey of dark blue, perhaps dependent upon his mood. But after wearing a red hoodie in the Super Bowl XLII defeat, his longtime girlfriend, Linda Holliday, made it official that red won't be in the cards for Sunday:

Unless Belichick has intentions to undermine his significant other, going with either the traditional grey or blue feels like a great bet to make. And considering how the Patriots fared the last time Belichick donned the red, their fans should be relieved.
